The history of Dogwood Hills Golf Club can be traced back to February of 1933 when a group of individuals bought 111 acres three miles south of Walterboro, SC with the plans of building a golf course. The members of the group bought shares for $100, and Walterboro Country Club, Inc. was formed. The property was then deeded to the city of Walterboro making it a government entity that was eligible for the federal government's new WPA program. The owner of Bonnie Doone Plantation, A.H. Caspary, donated Cyprus logs that were used along with WPA labor to construct the clubhouse, an outside kitchen, and a tenant house. A golf professional from Florida, Peter Jackson, laid out the original course. During World War II, officers from the Army Air Corps base used the Club. Then in 1965 the newly chartered Dogwood Hills Country Club, Inc. bought the property back from the city and began operation as a private club. In the spring of 1980 after 48 years of operation, the club underwent major renovations. Golf architect Russell Breeden was brought in to rebuild the entire course. The redesign included: the addition of three new holes, rerouting another hole, constructing a new green for the third hole, and reshaping all of the greens and tees. The additions of the bar, dining room, pro shop, and locker rooms were also completed that year. Operation as a private club by Dogwood Hills Country Club, Inc. continued until 2011 when Dogwood Hills Golf Club, LLC took over operation of the club making it a public facility again. After extensive renovations the restaurant and bar opened to the public in April of 2012. In February of 2013, Paramount Golf Partners assumed operation of the golf course. Mixers, clinics, golf tournaments, and more exciting events are happening in 2013.
